Epic Games makes another great acquisition
Epic Games has made another great acquisition today, although the last purchase of the game developer is also one of the strangest. Since Fortnite became a great success for Epic Games a few years ago, the developer has slowly snatched several companies around the world. And although many of these purchases have been linked to games (Harmonix, Psyonix, etc.), others have had less to do with the environment. However, after today's last acquisition, it seems that EPIC is trying to expand its scope as regards music.
Detailed through its website, Epic Games announced today that now has officially bought Bandcamp, which is a website dedicated to the music publication for independent artists. Bandcamp has been a platform over the years where emerging musicians often share their work in the search to grow over time. "The Bandcamp mission is to help spread the healing power of music by creating a community where artists thrive thanks to the direct support of their fans. In Epic, we have found a partner that believes as deeply as us in which the future of music, and art itself depends on the creation of equitable and inclusive communities such as our fanatics and artists have helped to build, "he said The CEO of Bandcamp, Ethan Diamon, on the measure. "We are excited to work together with the EPIC team to accelerate the realization of our mission and pursue our shared goal of empowering more creators in a fair and open way."
Speaking more about why Epic wanted to make this purchase in the first place, the vice president of the company, Steve Allison, explained that much of Bandcamp's vision is aligned with what EPIC wants to do in the future. «Bandcamp has built an incredible community and business where emerging artists can succeed thanks to the direct support of their fans, with one of the best income models and terms in music," Allison said. "This is closely aligned with the EPIC approach to support creators in all media and allow them to connect directly with their fans."
At this time, it is difficult to see how Bandcamp's participation with Epic Games could change to any of the companies in the future. Bandcamp has emphasized that it will continue to operate "as an independent market and a musical community," which means that Epic will clearly allow the site to continue working in the same way as it always has d1. It remains to be seen if that will change or not in the future, but this is one of the most fascinating movements that have been made in the proximity of the videogame industry in quite some time.
