GDC 2020 reported due to a coronavirus

The GDC 2020 is officially postponed and will no longer be held in March. The propagation of coronavirus has already led several developers to withdraw from the event before cancellation.

The official announcement has been published on the GDC website earlier in the day. The post cites the new coronavirus as a reason for the postponement.

After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and the community around the world, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developer Conference in March.

After spending last year preparing the show with our advisory councils, our speakers, our exhibitors and our event partners, we are really upset and disappointed not to be able to welcome you for the moment.

We would like to thank all our customers and partners for their support, their open discussions and their encouragement. Like everyone reminds us, great things happen when the community gathers and connects to GDC. For this reason, we fully intend to host a GDC event later during the summer. We will work with our partners to finalize the details and share more information about our plans in the coming weeks

We do not know if and when GDC will be postponed this year. Those who bought Pass for the event will receive an e-mail with more details on what to expect with respect to repayments.

The discussions and panels planned for the 2020 GDC could still take place. The GDC seeks to record and publish the presentations in the form of videos that will be available on its YouTube channel. The speakers of the conference are free to choose whether or not they will register their discussions so that GDC uses them. The videos will be available for free.

GDC also intends to broadcast content on Twitch during the week at which the event initially took place (from March 16st to 20th).
