The MMORPGNEWinter has brought his latest extension Jewel of the North on 24th August to the Xbox and PlayStation. She brings a new class, the Bard and that does exactly what you expect from a bard: talking to players. In the free performance mode you can actually play as a Bard, whatever you like, and the circumstantial players may (or need) experience.

What is Jewel of the North? The free extension for the MMORPG Neverwinter came to the PC in July. Now you can finally play on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One your favorite songs, because since the 24th of August, the extension is also available on the consoles.

Jewel of the North brought the bard class into the game and the linked performance modes, which can only activate it as a Bard.

What can the Bard? The Bard in Neverwinter is inspired by the archetype from the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. As a Bard you are a daring hero and can connect the melee with magic. You play music to strengthen and heal allies, or to twist your opponents with the songs.

Exclusively with the Bard you also have access to the new performance mode in which you can play different songs. The blades not only good, but can even damage your opponents. But the true highlight of the Bard in Neverwinter is the free performance mode.

What is the free performance mode? In this mode you can let your inner musician leaving, because with the instrument of your choice you can play in the free performance, what you want. You not only have access to the eight base notes, but can even choose commercials and octaves, ie different versions of the base notes, which vary in height and depth among other things.

So you are completely free, you can do well-known songs or, of course, create completely new songs and show them other players, and at any time, if you are not fighting. So you can literally be a medieval rock star and present your pieces before cheering audience.

The MMORPG Guild Wars 2 has a similar concept, which is concerned with its instruments. Musicians can regularly gather hundreds of players for their appearances. The free presentation mode of Neverwinter is still much more mature and lets us be curious what it will be possible.

Salim Grant, Senior Designer by Neverwinter and significantly involved in free performance mode, says:

With the free performance mode of the Bard, we want to make a lot of creativity and music enjoyment for the players; Just like the ocarine games in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. [...] the performing mode was developed extra for players who destroy their inner bard and maintain their allies adventurers. With the Bard, especially for the Dungeons & Dragons players we wanted to enable as much individualization as possible, so that they can become the bard that they always wanted to be.

How does the mode work? As long as you are not in combat with the Bard, you can activate the mode at any time. On the PC you can do that with the F12 key, on the consoles it works over the L1 trigger and R3. Once in the mode, you can now be free before you. Octaves then switch on to the PC with the arrow keys and on the consoles via the trigger keys.

The community becomes musical

How do players react? The bard and especially the free performance mode are taken by the fans. Players share their creations on Reddit and distribute note leaves, so to speak, so that all Bards can play their favorite songs (via reddit.com).

Among the songs of the players are in addition to classics like Happy Birthday also titles from curse of the Caribbean or Game of Thrones. But it would not be the internet if it would stay. Also the well-known song Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Stley (the Rick Roll Song) has made it a musical way to Neverwinter, just like the Twitch insider Darude Sandstorm.
